The Conditioner Mistake That’s Making Your Hair Worse

The Conditioner Mistake Almost Everyone Makes

Conditioner is supposed to be one of the most straightforward steps in a hair care routine. You shampoo, you condition, you rinse. But there is one very common mistake that turns a beneficial product into a source of buildup, oiliness, and hair damage, and most people do not even realise they are making it. The mistake is applying conditioner to the scalp.

Conditioner is designed to moisturise and detangle the hair shaft. It contains emollients and proteins that coat the hair cuticle to smooth it and reduce friction. When these same ingredients reach the scalp, they clog follicles, weigh the roots down, and create the exact environment that causes dandruff, excess oil, and hair fall.

Where Conditioner Should Actually Go

Conditioner should only be applied to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, the areas that are oldest, most exposed, and most in need of moisture. Your roots produce their own natural oils. The ends, however, receive very little of this natural conditioning and are the most prone to dryness, breakage, and split ends. These are the areas that actually need the product.

A good technique is to detangle the conditioner through the lower half of your hair using a wide-tooth comb, then leave it on for two to five minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Not All Conditioners Are Created Equal

Many conditioners on the Pakistani market are loaded with silicones, ingredients that create the illusion of smooth, shiny hair by coating the strand with a plastic-like film. Over time, this coating builds up and prevents moisture from penetrating the hair shaft, leading to dry, brittle hair that breaks easily.

The Affosentials Rosemary and Mint Conditioner is formulated without silicones, delivering deep moisture and frizz control through botanical conditioning agents that work with your hair rather than coating it. It is suitable for all hair types, including fine hair that is easily weighed down.

When to Use a Hair Mask Instead

If your ends are very dry, damaged, or prone to breakage, a weekly hair mask will provide significantly more intense conditioning than a rinse-out conditioner alone. Unlike conditioners, hair masks are designed to be left on for longer, allowing their active ingredients to penetrate more deeply. The Affosentials Rosemary and Mint Hair Mask is ideal as a weekly treatment to pair with your regular conditioning routine.
